VSA arts Research Symposium

The Contours of Inclusion:
Arts Learning Outcomes and Evaluation Strategies

November 7, 2007

France-Merrick Performing Arts Center
12 North Eutaw Street
Baltimore, Maryland

The Research Symposium was a full day event exploring new solutions for the evaluation of arts education in inclusive settings. By convening arts education researchers and practitioners, VSA arts examined how evaluation strategies may foster deeper understanding of arts teaching and learning, as well as inform the design of high quality instruction for all students. Building on the content and discoveries of our prior research symposiums, VSA arts featured a keynote and evaluation presentations by:

Keynote:
Richard J. Deasy (Arts Education Partnership)

Research Presentations:
Dr. Dennis Palmer Wolf (Annenberg Institute for School Reform)
Dr. Gail Burnaford (Florida Atlantic University)
Dr. Rob Horowitz (Teachers College, Columbia University)

Then in study groups, over sixty participants discussed the presentations and applications for evaluating the complexity of their own arts education programs.

A volume of invited essays from the presenters will be available in Spring 2008.
